RHS exam info

So I thought I’d put down here some information about the RHS theory exams that might be useful.

There are two exam sessions per year; one in June and one in February. To achieve the Certificate in Plant Growth, Propagation and Development (which I describe as the 1st certificate), you will need to pass 4 modules. The modules are R2101, R2102, R2103 and R2104. It is up to you how many modules you take in one sitting. Be warned though, all of these exams are on the same day, so if you do them all, it will be 4 exams consecutively, but with a break for lunch. To achieve the Certificate in Garden Planning, Establishment and Maintenance (the 2nd certificate), you will need to take 4 more modules which are R2111, R2112, R2113 and R2114. As before, you can choose which of these you take at a single sitting, and they are all consecutive exams on the same day.

The exams for the 1st certificate are held on one day (for example, a monday) and the exams for the 2nd certificate on the very next day (ie: a Tuesday). I found the exams pretty tiring and difficult in a small room in hot weather, so you will need to decide whether you can manage 2 days of exams or not. I thought that I couldn’t, so just did the 1st certificate.

The exams I sat in June 2019 cost £16 for each module, with an additional £35 admin fee on top, for each day that you sit exams. Add to that any fee that your chosen exam centre chooses to ask for. I did enquire with a local exam centre if I could sit the exams there and they said no, so I went to Wisley instead, which has no additional exam centre fees.

Hope this is useful.
