So I think that I have already mentioned that I had some difficulty in finding an exam centre to sit the exams as an external candidate, and I understand that I was not alone in this difficulty. I had assumed that I would be allowed to pay a local college to sit the exam there.… Continue reading Finding an exam centre

Extra info – exam papers and other resources
A few extra things I wanted to note here, which didn't seem to fit in anywhere else. The past RHS exam papers are available here: https://www.rhs.org.uk/Education-Learning/Qualifications-and-Training/RHS-qualifications/Level-2/Past-papers They only ever seem to provide the last 4 exam papers, of which the oldest 3 generally have model answers (this year has been a bit odd with Covid,… Continue reading Extra info – exam papers and other resources
Exams at Wisley September 2020
I went to RHS Wisley to sit the postponed exams from June 2020, and they had made a few changes. You used to go to the visitor centre and the exam room was upstairs in their offices, but now the exams are in Car Park 4, which is maybe a mile or so further down… Continue reading Exams at Wisley September 2020
Slug-proofing experiments
For the last few months, I've been experimenting with various ways in which to try to control the slug population or at least what they are eating. I have to say that single methods don't often work on their own, so I think it has to be a multi-pronged attack! This is what I have… Continue reading Slug-proofing experiments
Slug pub
Ok, so I've always known that there are a lot of slugs and snails in my small, suburban garden. When I first moved to this house, there were 3 tubes of slug pellets left in the shed by the previous occupants, and this should have told me something. Then, I noticed a large hosta which… Continue reading Slug pub
Theory exams June 2020
I was somewhat surprised to learn that the RHS were still expecting the theory exams in June 2020 to go ahead as usual. The information on their website now says: With the disruption to centre-based learning programmes, it is accepted that learners may well not be ready for assessment in June. It is also the… Continue reading Theory exams June 2020
Seedy Sunday!
Seedy Sunday is coming! It feels like the start of a new gardening year and I get far too many seeds just because they look interesting! Oh, and they're cheap so you can get them even if you aren't swapping. The event is sponsored by Infinity Foods, and supported by The Real Junk Food Project,… Continue reading Seedy Sunday!
A miracle!
I am so excited! This is my first ever flower from my tea plant - Camellia sinensis assamica. I got it as a twig, basically, from the Eden Project. It hasn't looked too good or happy so I was surprised to see the buds. And my, aren't the flowers pretty??!
Practical level 2
Stanmer Park I've just started the level 2 practical course at Stanmer Park - looks nice, doesn't it? The college is behind the house and is a series of portacabins. There is a re-development going on though, and the old walled gardens belonging to the house are being restored and the college will be sited… Continue reading Practical level 2
Yay! I passed!
The exam results were posted online yesterday (you have to set up an account but they send you the details when you register for the exams), and I passed! Phew. I'm going to celebrate with this: Just need to start studying for the next lot now.
